Taking the SAT? Some suggestions for preparation.
Recently, a friend asked for advice on preparing her daughter for the SAT 1 test. My response:

1) Get a prep book. I like Princeton Review or Barrons. 2) Have your daughter sit for the whole diagnostic test(s) from the book to assess weakness. 3) Begin working on vocabulary immediately (2-3 words, roots, a day). 4) Learn the 8-10 important “math facts, formulas…” (problems that appear most often. 5) Hire a tutor or tutors for math/verbal from Craig’s List. ($25-30/hr. should suffice. Plenty of talented people out there and it’s currently a seller’s market. Practice the essay from techniques in the books because they understand how the SAT people think and are expecting. Write at least five essays before the test and evaluate according to the principles from book. Bon Chance!
